âHey! Let me go!!â I shriek. I'm currently hanging upside down over Coleâs shoulder, wriggling to and fro trying to escape this predicament. The hot giant mountain dude who lights my inner fire like nobody elseâin real life anywayâdeclared halfway down the mountain that he likes meâno, loves meâand he knows I like him tooânot a lieâand to top it off, he added crazily, that the mountain has sent me as a gift. His gift. What am I? The virgin sacrifice to ensure a good harvest in the spring?
The man is certifiably insane and as soon as I get out of his stinky truck; I attempt to make a run for itâhence the reason Iâm being carried over a broad shoulder toward Coleâs cabin. Thankfully, my kidnapping isnât going unnoticed. Thereâs some other giant dudeâseriously, are all the men on Moose Mountain built like beasts?âup a ladder, clearing out Coleâs gutters. âHelp! Sir, please. Iâm being kidnapped!â
Coleâs step doesnât even falter. âOh hey, Boone. I forgot you were coming around today.â
The guyâBooneâpauses and turns our way, taking in the scene below him with a curious eye. âGuess we should skip the drink when Iâm done?â
Cole stops moving, resting his hand on my ass. âIf you donât mind. I have a misbehaving woman to deal with.â
âYouâve got to be kidding me.â I crane my neck to get a good look at Boone, and the moment I realize this is another Cooper brother, I give up the fight, letting my body go limp. âOf course the only person within hearing distance is one of your brothers. I will never get away from you.â
Cole pats my ass again. âWhy would you want to? You love me.â He chuckles, and Boone smiles knowingly.
âI see youâve got yourself a live one there. Good luck with that. But to save the little lady embarrassment, Iâll finish this up later,â Boone says.
I shake my head defiantly. âHey. No. Itâs not like that. You can stay. Iâm just here to get my luggage. I donât even like your brother, let alone love him.â Even I donât believe the laugh that comes out of my mouth after that. Crap.
âItâs totally like that,â Cole contradicts. âThanks, Boone. You and Brooks should come over for dinner next week. Meet my woman.â That's when he lifts his hand, and I barely have a chance to catch my breath before he brings his palm down on my ass with weight this time. I cry out. No. I moan. What the? Did I like that?
âSounds good, big brother. Maybe we can persuade Gray and his lady to come down too?â
âYeah. We just came back from there. Letâs just say I think theyâre gonna be busy for a while.â
âHey! Hello? Thatâs my best friend youâre talking about!â
âIâll give them a call. Iâm going now. Nice to meet you, little lady,â Boone says.
âNice to meet you too,â I reply with a resigned sigh and a small wave. âSee you at dinner next week.â
Cole scales his stairs, not faltering even once as he opens the door and carries me across the threshold.
